About Us

NO REDD in Africa Network (NRAN) is a platform of African Civil Society organizations, movements, activists and individuals that oppose all kinds of REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation). The NRAN was founded during the World Social Forum, held in Tunis, Tunisia, in March 2013.
Our Main Objective
To Resist and Stop REDD in Africa.
why?
- Because REDD projects grab peasants and local communities lands;
- Because REDD is a new form of Colonialism;
- Because REDD does not reduce emissions;
- REDD only defers or relocates deforestation
- Also, resisting REDD helps to stop the establishment of monoculture tree plantations and the use of genetically modified trees.

Our goals

Promote research, analysis, demystification and mapping of REDD including REDD-type projects, implementers, funders, affected communities and Indigenous Peoples.

Establish legal precedents and jurisprudence to defend human rights and environmental integrity against REDD

Capacity building on REDD and resistance to REDD with grassroots communities
Members and Allies

Our members are either organizations or individual persons that reject REDD for being a false solution to Climate Change and a new form of colonialism. The NRAN is open to accept memberships and build alliances with any organization or individual persons that agree with these principles.
